Eastridge Wood sits at the northern end of the Stiperstones between Snailbeach, Habberley and Minsterley in Shropshire, about 20 minutes from Shrewsbury.

The woodland is located within the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and still contains relics of the area’s mining history. Facilities for cyclists have been developed in the wood in partnership with the Blue Remembered Hills Project, a five-year Landscape Partnership Project, running from 2003 until 2007 that aimed to protect the unique biodiversity of the woodlands while making the terrain accessible to cyclists, walkers, horseback riders, and educational groups.

The woodland area is known for its black poplars, one of Britain's rarest native trees, and its colourful meadows of wildflowers, which are conserved through wild seed harvesting and sowing. Moorland, grassland, heathland and marsh are grazed by sheep, long-horned cattle, and wild ponies.

Several walking festivals each year take advantage of the hundreds of miles of public footpaths and bridleways that lead across hill tops, along ancient trackways, through river valleys and down sunken lanes. The surrounding market towns feature farmers markets and independent shops to browse, museums and galleries to inspire, and tea shops with local treats to enjoy.

If you're staying the weekend for the NPS and Whyte Enduro, consider dropping in at the Church Stretton Food Fayre taking place August 24-25, a unique and family-friendly celebration of eating and drinking.
